Did you know you’re a genius?
It’s true, you are!
Genius is defined as exceptional creative, intellectual or natural ability.
Some people are obvious geniuses….like Albert Einstein, for instance. Obvious intellectual genius. But then there’s YOU. And ME. We seem pretty ordinary, right?
I personally believe that each and every person on this planet is a genius at something.
Do you know what your natural genius is?
First of all, it’s something that you enjoy doing. You get great satisfaction from doing it. You can’t help doing it. It doesn’t take concentrated effort or determined focus. It flows naturally, requiring little effort. In fact, you likely don’t realize that it doesn’t come naturally to everyone else. People often offer their genius to others free of charge because they enjoy doing it so much! You mistakenly think everyone can do it, and that it’s not particularly special because it comes so easily to you. That’s what makes it hard ti identify!
Has someone ever complimented you on something, and you brushed it aside because you thought anyone could do that? Or you thought anyone would respond that way? Or you thought everyone else loved to do that thing too? Take another look. It may be that you have run across your genius.
One of my geniuses is to see other people’s strengths and talents and know how to leverage them. Another is efficiency. I can’t not fix it when I see a better way! I have a good friend who is a master at saying things boldly, yet in a way that not only doesn’t offend other people, but makes them like him more! Total genius! Another friend has the ability to sense what other people are feeling. She can’t help it! We have a son who we call “the finder of lost things” because he seems to be able to find anything literally!
Still not sure?
Try this free-thinking exercise.
- What could you do all day long and not get tired of?
- Where do you feel most in your element?
- What makes you light up, feel confident, or experience joy?
- What gifts/talents have others pointed out that you possess?
- What do you wish you could do more of?
- What do you do without being asked?
- What do you often do for free?
- What do you do in your free time?
- When you have a list of things to do, which ones do you want to do first?
- What are you doing when you completely lose track of time?
- What makes you feel a surge of energy?
Have you figured out your Natural Genius yet?
If you still can’t identify it, ask other people who know you well what they think you are naturally better at than others. You may be surprised at the responses you get! You can also ask your own brain, then sit and wait to see what ideas come up. Don’t get discouraged if this takes some time. It can.
As you continue to work at this, your natural genius will surface. Once it does, you may find ways to leverage it even more. It’s a great thing to know about yourself!
